William Beatty of Cordressigo, County Monaghan, Ireland

This branch of the Beatty family is thought to have originated in Scotland and settled in Ireland in the 1600s or early 1700s. It is not known exactly when the Beattys first settled at Cordressigo, but there were apparently family members residing there continuously from at least 1771 to 1897. A William Beatty gave Cordressigo as his residence when his sons John (1771), Robert (1774), David (1775) and James (1776) were baptised at the Ematris Church of Ireland Parish Church. A James Beatty died at Cordressigo in 1897 but his wife Rebecca and son William Robert Beatty had left there by the time of the 1901 census. Between 1771 and 1897 numerous family members are known to have emigrated from Cordressigo to places such as Canada, the United States of America and Australia.
